Joy Prison Ministry currently visits over 24 plus prisons and jails in Texas transforming lives by sharing the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to thousands of incarcerated inmates.
Gertha Rogers is a multi-talented woman who gave her heart and life passion to the incarcerated populations and staff for 38 plus years in the Texas prison system, earning the title, Queen of Prison Ministry. Gertha Rogers, also known as "Mama" Rogers by many inmates, She was the first female in Texas to minister on Death Row and has also witnessed executions. To many inmates, she was the only "mama" they knew. God has given her exceptional favor with many of the TDCJ officials, and other staff mambers.
This timeless heartwarming story will surely become a classic in literature. How much we need her and her kind is also placed inside the context of the state and national literature on in-prison programming, re-entry, and rehabilitation - where she has helped pave the way. This is a jewel of a story.
Gertha Rogers is a recipient of the Texas Governor’s Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award that was issued in 2007 by Governor Rick Perry.
